Come out to Jay Verno Studios in the South Side (3030 Jane St) this Friday, October 16th, for a party to benefit the Botanic Garden of Western Pennsylvania. This is a project that has been in the work for a long time but lacks the funding needed to move forward. With your help we can make this happen for our lifetime as well as our kids, grandchildren, and centuries down the road. It's hard to believe, but the western Pennsylvania region is the only metropolitan region of its size in the United States without an outdoor botanical garden. You do need to register for this event, which you can do on the right-hand side of their site here. Rick Byerly sent me the info and he says:
Botanic gardens are destinations that stimulate cultural, educational and economic enrichment far beyond their boundaries. Botanic gardens celebrate plants in beautiful and educational outdoor settings. While serving the needs of the community by displaying regionally hardy plants, the garden will offer dramatic color, outdoor classrooms, spectacular vistas, woodland walks, environmental "laboratories".
