Mr. Carney was a member of Akron's great Tin Huey, and has performed and recorded with Tom Waits, Jonathan Richman, William Burroughs, Allen Ginsberg, The B-52’s, Marc Ribot, Bill Laswell, David Thomas, Hal Willner, Elvis Costello, Tipsy, Galaxie 500, Daevid Allen, Mushroom, Oranj Symphonette and The Black Keys.
