Maria Harrington's Exploration of Environments!

Dr. Maria C.R. Harrington is a local artist and researcher who focuses on "Simulated Ecological Environments, a type of spatial cognitive ecology, and the development of quantitative models representing the intersection of the child’s mental model, the virtual environment and the user interface. Her research may answer questions on how humans perceive, detect and identify objects in the natural world. They may also contribute to the development of search and navigation tools that support children in independent exploration and motivating intrinsic, deep learning and acts of creation." From 2000 until last year she was an adjunct professor at the School of Information Sciences (SIS) at University of Pittsburgh. Harrington says:
My research focuses on Simulated Ecological Environments, a type of CGI, virtual environment, 3D spatial cognitive ecology, and the development of quantitative models representing the intersection of the child’s mental model, the virtual environment and the user interface. I hope to answer questions on how humans perceive, detect and identify objects in the natural world. The work may also contribute to the development of search and navigation tools that support children in independent exploration and intrinsic, deep learning and acts of creation.
The 3D environments that Maria posted on her art blog all the way back in 2006 are RAD which you can checkout below, but I'd love to see some updates on what she's up to now and some newer works! Can't wait to see more from Maria!
