Unicorn Mountain at Mendelson Gallery Tonight!

Tonight, June 12th from 7-9, if for whatever reason you're not watching Game 7, or at the Arts Fest watching Robert Randolph, go checkout Unicorn Mountain's opening reception at the Mendelson Gallery in Shadyside. UM is a cool Pittsburgh collective of artists that continue to push boundaries with unique and appealing products. Check it!

From Pop City:
Kicking off its summer season Friday night, Unicorn Mountain will host an opening reception for "On Echo River" at Shadyside's Mendelson Gallery. The new group exhibition features work by more than 10 prolific Pittsburgh artists, including Elina Malkin, Jon Carling, Jeff Schreckengost, Masha Vereshchenko, Dave Grim, Katherine Young, and Valerie Lueth. Also featured will be work by Encyclopedia Destructica founder Christopher Kardambikis.

The exhibition's tranquil title refers to a deep underground river located in Kentucky's Mammoth Cave, while simultaneously suggests a link to Pittsburgh's mythical "Fourth River." A portion of the art sales from "On Echo River" will support the publication of The Black Forest, Unicorn Mountain's much-anticipated third anthology due out in October 2009. Published in partnership with its creative cousin, Encyclopedia Destructica, The Black Forest is described by group founders as a “dark, lyrical take on the folklore of rural western Pennsylvania.”
